The story of the Americas in general and the United States of America in particular， including the important role of cartography。Mapping America is a story of the New World from the voyages of Christopher Columbus to the founding of the United States of America。 There are frequent inclusions of maps depicting territories， battle plans， and other important aspects of like at the time。 We see how the shape and details of the maps slowly are developed and how different countries and mapmakers showe The story of the Americas in general and the United States of America in particular， including the important role of cartography。Mapping America is a story of the New World from the voyages of Christopher Columbus to the founding of the United States of America。 There are frequent inclusions of maps depicting territories， battle plans， and other important aspects of like at the time。 We see how the shape and details of the maps slowly are developed and how different countries and mapmakers showed or hid certain details。 I enjoyed the historical details included in this book and how we saw the importance of maps in various pivotal moments。 Given the title and subtitle， I expected this book to be arranged with chapters devoted to individual maps and then the story of that particular map and how it fit into the bigger picture。 This is not the case; the book is instead divided into individual eras with several maps included in each chapter as needed to illustrate particular points。 This was effective， but not exactly what I was hoping for when I picked up this book。Than you to Edelweiss and Apollo Publishers for providing an advanced copy of this book for review。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more
